Rules and Regulations

1. Exhibitors must be members of a 4-H Calf Club organized this year. Previous winners are eligible to compete.
2. Entries must be received on a 4-H form by the Fair Office by September 25th, 2009. No late entries accepted.
3. All entrants must exhibit this year’s 4-H Calf Club calf as identified before June 1st. NO SUBSTITUTIONS.
4. Incomplete Entry Forms will not be accepted.
5. Showing will commence at 1:30 p.m. A complimentary Pizza meal for participating 4-H members, leaders and parents at 5:30 p.m. after the show. Sponsored by Wentworth Milk Committee; Pizza Pizza and Rockton Agricultural Society.

6. Rockton Agricultural Society will not be responsible for any loss, damage or accident to any person or property on the grounds during the Fair, however caused.
7. HARNESS CARDS WILL BE USED. EACH EXHIBITOR WILL PROVIDE THEIR OWN HARNESS.
8. Photographer – John Overmeyer.  Parents may photograph class winners in the winner’s circle.  Photos of champions will be taken by the fair and provided to the winners.

SECTION 47 – INTERBREED SHOWMANSHIP - at 1:30 p.m.
CLASS -  Judged on a group basis
1. Senior -18 yrs and older*                   3.  Junior -11 to 14 yrs of age*
2. Intermediate -15 to 17 yrs of age*      4.  Novice - First yr members*
* All ages are as of January 1, 2009.
Prize Money: Group A - $50.00; Group B - $40.00; Group C - $30.00
CHAMPION SHOWMANSHIP - Donated by Bosdale Farms.
RESERVE CHAMPION - Donated by Ken and Bev Lisso.
NOVICE CHAMPION - Donated by Fennema Holsteins, Jake & Janet Ringelberg.

SECTION 47.1 - 4-H PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION  
5:30 p.m. – held during the PIZZA PIZZA supper hour
6 Contestants will be selected from entries received. 5 minutes will be allotted to each Contestant. Only 4-H Dairy Calf Club members, showing a calf, are eligible to enter this class.
Topics will be selected from the following:

  1. Learn to do by doing!
  2. My most interesting year in 4H
  3. 4H Challenges and Opportunities

PRIZE MONEY: cash - 1st, $50.00; 2nd, $40.00; all others $30.00

SECTION 48 - Tiny Farmer Class
Non –4H class - No entry fee required but proof of $1 million liability insurance must be presented for each entry.  There will be two classes.

1. Exhibitors with A HELPER REQUIRED in the ring.
2. Exhibitors with NO HELPER REQUIRED in the ring.
Open to boys and girls under 10 years of age as of Jan. 1st, 2009 - Born on or after Jan. 1st, 1999 - showing a Dairy Calf.
Showmanship Trophies donated by Huntsdale Farms, Troy, ON
Each exhibitor will receive $10.00 donated by McIntosh E.T., Embro, ON and Rockton World’s Fair.

SECTION 48.1 – INTERBREED TYPE - 7:00 p.m.
CLASS - Judged on a group basis     
1. Junior Heifer - March 1, 2009 or later.
2. Intermediate Heifer - December 1, 2008 - February 28, 2009.
3. Senior Heifer - Sept. 1, 2008 - Nov. 30, 2008.
4. Summer Yearling - June 1, 2008 - August 31, 2008.
5. Junior Yearling - March 1, 2008 - May 31, 2008.
Prize Money: Group A - $50.00; Group B - $40.00; Group C - $30.00
GRAND CHAMPION 4-H CALF: Donated by Dairy Knole Farm - Rob & Anne Nimijohn.
RESERVE CHAMPION: Donated by Glen Drummond Farm - Roger & Betty Dyment.

SECTION 49 - GET OF SIRE CLASS
Group of 3 calves by same sire. Not required to be in same club. No prior registration required.
Prize Money (cash awards): 1st, $60.00; 2nd, $45.00; all others $30.00.
SECTION 49.1 - GROUP OF 4
Group of 4 4-H Club Calves.
1. Each calf must be a 4-H Club Calf this year.
2. All four calves must be from the same club and entered under the name of the Club Leader.
3. One entry per Club.
Prize Money: 1st, $50; 2nd, $40; all others $30.

SECTION 49.2 - 4-H HERDSMAN’S COMPETITION
4-H Clubs are encouraged to assemble a barn exhibit in the space allocated to the housing of their animals. This competition is open to clubs entering the 4-H Inter-Club Dairy Calf Club Show - October 9th, 2009.
Prize Money:1st, $50; 2nd, $40; 3rd, $30;all other creditable exhibits $20.
Judging will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

SECTION 50 - ROCKTON 4-H LEADERSHIP AWARD
1. All Members exhibiting their 4-H project are eligible.
2. Presented to the 4-Her who best exhibits the spirit and meaning of 4-H during and in preparation for the show.
3. Some factors that will be considered: how members help each other, co-operate with others and best exemplify the motto “Learn To Do By Doing”.
4. The $100 cash award from the Rockton Agricultural Society will be presented following the show.

SECTION 50.1 - PREMIER CLUB AWARD - $100
This award will be presented to the 4-H Club having the most points won in individual classes (conformation and showmanship). Points awarded for class placing: 1st - 20; 2nd - 18; 3rd - 16; ...; 10th - 2. In case of a tie prize money of $100 will be shared among the winners.
